Design A Social Media Business Plan For 2010

by Stephen M. Fells on March 11, 2010

Stephen M. FellsIn the following Webinar Frances Flynn Thorsen, Realtor and founder of Real Estate Social Media Policies, highlights something that I feel will become increasing important; social media policy.

Corporate governance, specifically brand management on the collective social media outlets is in chaos made worse by a lack of knowledge, conflicting advice from a million and one social media ‘experts’ and of course a complete lack of any formal policy.

It’s a problem for all businesses not just real estate but I’ll use a specific brand to highlight one issue. As a consumer looking for the RE/MAX twitter account which of the following is the official one:

Remax Twitter Accounts

The image above represents a very small fraction of RE/MAX branded twitter accounts, there are actually several hundred, possibly thousands. You’ll see multiple versions of the RE/MAX balloon and commentary from who knows? Add Facebook pages, blogs and Websites and you’ll start to see that for any brand, keeping track of image usage and commentary is already an impossible task. And it’s getting worse.

I know you are busy but having the webinar playing in the background as you work is time well spent. You’ll get some great advice but more importantly I hope you’ll start to think about your own social media policy.

Big can of worms this topic. Knowing Frances well, she’ll knock out tackling this niche topic of policy and governance on social media…managing brands. Very interesting.
