What Is A Browser?

by Stephen M. Fells on March 15, 2010

Stephen M. FellsLast year we updated the AgencyLogic single property Website software to ensure it worked with Internet Explorer 8.0. Prior to completing the upgrade we advised some clients to use an alternate browser to bypass certain issues caused by Microsoft’s software. The interesting thing was that many realtors didn’t know they could use a different browser to ‘surf the web’ (that seems like such an antiquated term), in fact many didn’t even know what a browser was. They just thought the little blue ‘e’ meant “internet”. They clicked it, they saw Websites.

Internet Explorer

The truth is there are not only lot’s of browsers but also lot’s of versions of those browsers. From a software development perspective it’s a real nuisance but I do believe that choice and competition drives better products. I also accept no one will ever be allowed to monoplise the browser software world (just ask Microsoft) so I have to move on.

Browsers

The following video is a brief overview of browser choices, to see what browser you are using visit the “What Browser?” Website.

I was especially interested in the “browser” article. Sadly, no videos showed up to be opened. I hope you try again, because I always want to learn more.

(My browswer is MS version 8.0 on my PC; and Safari on my iMac.) It would have been a “tenner rating” had I been able to view the videos.
