Realtor.com® Launches “Local Pride” College Scholarship

Award open to students attending college or graduate school in the coming year

Santa Clara, CA – March. 8, 2018 (PRNewswire) Realtor.com®, a leading online real estate destination, today announced the launch of its Local Pride Scholarship as part of its commitment to helping future generations achieve their education goals, and ultimately better position them for homeownership. The scholarship, which realtor.com® plans to award annually, gives students a chance to show off their local pride with an essay about their neighborhood.

Realtor.com® data shows the median U.S. home price is $274,900, a 10 percent jump over last year. The median earnings of young adults with a bachelor’s degree was $50,000, 64 percent higher than those of young adult high school completers at $30,500.(1)

“The ability to afford a down payment and monthly mortgage payment is a steep financial hill to climb in today’s competitive housing marketing,” said Nate Johnson, chief marketing officer for realtor.com®. “Our Local Pride scholarship gives us a chance to invest in today’s students who are future home buyers.”

Participating students have a chance to celebrate their local community as part of the scholarship application process. Three scholarships will be awarded based on participants’ 300-500-word response to what makes them proud about where they live, including insights about a neighborhood they feel they are a “local” in. Realtor.com® will award $2,500 to the first-place recipient, $1,000 to second-place, and $500 for third-place.(2)

In addition to the scholarship, realtor.com® is also kicking off an eight-week internship program that will give college students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience by working directly with realtor.com®’s leading engineering, marketing and product teams.

Entries for the Local Pride Scholarship are open from March. 7, 2018 through June 30, 2018. It is open to people 18 years of age or older who are planning to attend, during the upcoming academic year, an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States. The winners will be announced in July, 2018. Full scholarship details, conditions and rules are available at: www.realtor.com/scholarships.
