Orlando, FL – November 9, 2022 (nar.realtor) James Cristbrook, Realtor® and NAR Diversity Committee Chair, and Natalie Davis, Realtor® and 2023 President, Colorado Association of Realtors®, led Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing, at the National Association of Realtors® NAR NXT Conference. During the three-hour course they engaged members on challenging discussions about identity and tactics to eliminate bias in the real estate industry.

Realtors® are committed to abiding by fair housing laws and the Code of Ethics. But sometimes, our brains take shortcuts that can lead us astray. The discussion during Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing outlined how real estate professionals can interrupt stereotypical thinking so they can avoid fair housing pitfalls and provide equal professional service to every customer or client.

The course went on to cover the mind science of identity, the study of how implicit bias can result in fair housing violations, and how to engage in interactive exercises to enhance communication skills and business relationships with clients of all backgrounds.
