Inman Release Real Estate Compensation Survey Results

Inman News is known for providing real estate news, information, advice, research, opinion and commentary for industry professionals and consumers alike. In 2006 they released a report focused on compensation in the real estate industry but note that their more recent report “reveals a dramatically different picture from the inaugural report in 2006”.

Inman state:

“The survey was conducted online from Feb. 9, 2011, to March 15, 2011, and collected 1,054 responses from North America and New Zealand. Of those answering the survey, 536 identified themselves as real agents or sales associates, 197 as broker associates, 177 as brokers-owners, 93 as brokers, 29 as sales managers and 22 in other positions, such as marketing/communications and business development.”

The questions addressed in the survey include:

  • How many years have you worked in real estate?
  • How many agents/sales associates work in your real estate office?
  • What do you expect your individual gross income from real estate work before taxes to be in 2011?
  • How many transaction sides did you (personally) close in 2009 and 2010?
  • How many transaction sides do you expect to (personally) close in 2011?
  • What is your typical compensation (as a % of sale price) for a single transaction side?
  • What had the most impact on your compensation/income in 2008 and 2010?
  • What type of fee structure do you offer for your real estate services?
  • What type of fee structure for real estate services do you believe will become more popular within the next 5 years?
  • In 2010, were sellers more likely to negotiate commission/compensation with you than they were in 2009?
