Fair Housing Focus: Upheaval Leads to Landmark Law

Three events led to passage of the Fair Housing Act on April 11, 1968:

  • the role of housing in the civil rights push
  • the Kerner Commission report on urban unrest
  • the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
