Getting the Right Domain

Question: Can I register the property address url to insure it is not taken before the property goes live? I don’t want the property to go live at the same time the url is ordered.

Answer: The best thing to do is go ahead and publish the site so that you are ensured of getting the desired domain name. Then, once the site is published, select the site within your account. To the top right of the screen you will see a button marked “take offline” – clicking on that takes the site out of public view, and the button changes to say “put online,” which is what you will do when you are ready for it to be shown.

I bought my own domain name – how do I use it with a PowerSite?

Overview
In summary, the Publishing process includes registering an alternate website address with us then “forwarding” the Website address you already owned to the alternate one.

There is no savings in purchasing your own domain names – the domain registration is included in the cost of publishing your site.

Process
Put your site “Online” by completing the “Publish” process.

Once your site is Published and Online, you are ready to forward your Website address to this site. Access the account you used to register your Website address and enter the temporary address in the “forwarding” or redirect feature. If you need assistance, please contact your domain registrar’s technical support department. We cannot provide any assistance with this step as it is out of our control.

If all was set correctly, your site will be displayed using your Website address instead of the temporary one.

Example
You have a property with an address of “123 Any St” and you would like to use a Website address you already own, e.g. MarysLatestListing.com.

During the Publish process, enter a property-related address (such as 123AnySt.com), and Publish the site. Once the site is online you are ready to forward your Website address to the site.

Login to the domain registrar (for example, GoDaddy) where you have your Website address MarysLatestListing.com.

There should be an option (sometimes listed under “DNS Settings”) available to “Forward” or “redirect” your Website address (often referred to as a “Domain”). Enter the site address you just published with us. Once you confirm the change your Website address will be updated to forward to your site.

Please note that these changes may take your registrar several hours to update.

All domain registrars should offer this functionality in one form or another. For more information please look at the “Help” section for your registrar.
