Using NAR Tools in Your Social Marketing (eBooklet)

At this months NAR Midyear Conference I was fortunate enough to hear Amy Chorew and Ginger Wilcox speak about how to use NAR tools in social marketing. If you ever have the opportunity to hear either Amy or Ginger speak you should take advantage of it; they consistently provide engaging, valuable and understandable advice that every Realtor can benefit from.

The good news is a lot of their content is available free online. An eBooklet and their presentation materials are available via realtor.org. You can also see some interesting videos on Amy’s Website The Tech Byte and her free newsletter provides some great content.

Both Amy and Ginger are involved with the Social Media Marketing Institute, an organization:

“dedicated to the further development of Social Media, both as a business tool as well as a means of enhancing relationships and engaging current and potential clients”

The SMMI Website contains timely commentary, usable content and details on their training courses.

Housing For Homeless

Stephen M. FellsAt the RE Barcamp in San Francisco last week I sat in on a session moderated by Ginger Wilcox. The topic was Housing for Homeless, a new RE Barcamp initiative that Ginger and the other organizers hope will result in change via “the power of [the real estate] community”

RE Barcamp has been discussed on this blog before but one thing needs repeating; it’s free. This is reason enough for people to be a little more generous but there are other, more important, reasons to get involved in Housing for Homeless:

  • Right now there are more homeless children in the United States than at any other time since the Great Depression.
  • One in four San Francisco Bay Area families can’t afford the basics of housing, food, healthcare and childcare without some kind of public assistance. (United Way of the Bay Area report)
  • The average income for the poorest fifth of San Francisco households is just $10,019 a year. (Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty)
  • There is virtually no affordable housing in San Francisco. Applicants for Section 8 federal housing typically spend 5-8 years on the waiting list. (San Francisco Chronicle report)
  • Housing for Homeless

Funds raised from RE Barcamp (San Francisco) go to Compass Community Services a leader in its field, recognized citywide for their expertise in helping families surmount homelessness and extreme poverty. By providing intensive, personalized and long-term services, they not only stabilize families in crisis and meet their immediate needs, but they give clients the tools and resources to obtain permanent housing, earn a living wage, and maintain lasting stability and self-sufficiency. They also work closely with the Mayor’s office, city officials and other agencies to identify the barriers families face in obtaining housing and employment, and to facilitate access to the services that are most critical to families’ success.
