Pictorial Recap of REBarcamp New York

Last week’s REBarcamp (sponsored in part by follr.com social business cards) was a huge success. Thank you to the Lucky Strikers Social Media Club for organizing the event and to Mike Mueller for putting together this great pictorial recap 🙂

Lucky Strikers August Meeting Recap

If you are in the New York (Tri-State) area and are either involved or interested in real estate or social media you should know about The Lucky Striker’s Social Media Club. The group describes itself as:

“Tri-State professionals that are enamored with Real Estate, Technology, Social Media and Entrepreneurship. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month. We come together to eat, drink, and talk about what goes on in the industry. Partnerships are made, products/projects are conceived, advice is given and we are all here to help one another.”

I am a member and find the organization extremely valuable. Here are notes from this weeks meeting to give you a flavor. I hope to see you at one of the events 🙂

Last night we got together for our August meeting. Personally, I thought it was one of the best we have ever had. I would like to thank our guest speaker once more, Sree Sreenivasan. Here are some of the highlights:

Sree, the Dean of Student Affairs at Columbia Journalism School, started us off with a very engaging topic of social media and traditional journalism and how the two are converging/conflicting.
  • Social media needs to be a good fit for your personal AND professional life or it’s not for you
  • Social media is constantly changing and those of us who are on the ‘cutting edge’ could easily not be in the next year
  • Social media in many respects represents the citizen journalism that we are always hearing about but is essentially opinion. Traditional journalism still has a place in our society
  • Social media is not a cure-all that will fix all of your business woes. It needs to be properly planned and thought out – responsibility.
  • Social media is a great way to syndicate traditional journalistic content

We shared some memories about our recently departed friend and fellow Lucky Striker, Joe Ferrara. Joe was a founding member of the original Luck Strike dinner club and an amazing guy. There are not many people in our industry that have not benefited from Joe’s efforts and vision. He is already missed.

We are also happy to announce that we extended invites to five new members of Lucky Strikers. More on that next month.

We are in the process of putting together RE Barcamp NYC for January. If you are interested in helping out or sponsoring please contact us. Every little bit counts.

Please follow our Facebook page and keep an eye open for Lucky Striker updates and please feel free to share some of your thoughts and experiences.
